Description
This kit is a model of a Leek and Manifold waiting shelter provided by the light railway at all their intermediate stations. These buildings were purchased in kit form from the Portable Building Co Ltd of Fleetwood in 1904. These shelters were of a timber framed construction with zinc sheet roofs.
Birch Plywood Construction
The main structural parts of this kit are laser cut from 3mm birch plywood to give greater weather resistance than our usual poplar plywood
Birch Plywood Detailing
Most of the detailing on this kit is provided by one piece “overlays” cut from 1.5mm birch plywood. This technique allows for an attractive building without the modeller having to glue dozens tiny pieces in place. Note this kit is available in both our usual 1/20 scale ( suitable for “16mm to the foot and “G” scale) and also 1/13.5 ( for 7/8 inch to the foot) scale.
Polypropylene Roof
The roof overlay is laser cut from polypropylene sheet to represent the zinc sheeting of the prototype. This also has the virtue of being completely rain proof! Window frames and glazing are also cut from the same material.
Note: If the modeller intends to leave this building out between running sessions then we highly recommend thoroughly varnishing or painting this structure together with the use of a waterproof PVA adhesive (neither of which is not included in this kit).
