Description
Ruston & Hornsby of Lincoln first manufactured narrow gauge diesel locomotives in the early 1930’s. Over the next four decades they built thousands of locomotives, mostly between 18- and 24-inch gauges. Rustons used a number of engines in these, first bought in from Listers (as with our Ruston 20 HP locomotive) and then manufacturing their own range of engines. Bodywork evolved continuously even before they left the factory. Once on site, their owners soon started adapting their locos to meet their own particular needs. This means that no two locomotives appear to be the same when studying photographs!
Seventy-seven of these “20HP” locomotives were built 1932 and 1938 using 2-cylinder Lister diesel engines. The first batches featuring the straight side radiator modeled.
Our Ruston 20 HP locomotive kit features four wheel drive chain drive to steel driving wheels and a 12 volt micro motor and gearbox. The kit has been designed for easy assembly with the major components being held together with nuts and bolts; thus greatly simplifying painting. The bonnet top clips into place to allow easy access to the models battery compartment.
The kit has been designed to be powered by a rechargeable PP3 battery. This is held in place by a battery clamp which allows the battery to project through the bonnets bottom allowing easy access for the recharging lead
Also available as a Ready-To-Run locomotive here.
We are also selling this new chassis as a separate item for the home builder here
