Description
This 1/19 scale model kit is based on a steel DHR open goods wagon built at Tindharia works on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in India. Their design was largely based on the Leeds Forge wagons imported in the early 1900s but were fabricated from steel section and plate rather the originals drop forging.
This kit features:
Laser Cut Bodywork
The wagon body is cut from 1.5 mm thick high impact styrene sheet (a.k.a. plasticard). This is easy to paint as there is no wood grain to disguise. The body sides also feature rows of pilot holes for easy location of the riveted body strapping .
3D Printed Sintered Body Detailing
The riveted angle iron body strapping is a very prominent feature of the DHR open goods wagon. All this strapping has been 3D printed in an engineering grade nylon which gives a robust and detailed component. Lines of rivets are molded on these components which simply push through the body side holes for an accurate and strong join.
Choise of Couplings
The distinctive elliptical steel center buffers are reproduced in robust nylon together with no less than three choices of coupling arrangement. Prototypical swing link and pin; drop link and hook and simple hook and chain.
3D Printed Sintered Brake Gear
Full brake gear including the distinctive end brake lever is included
3D Printed Sintered Nylon Axle Guards
A set of sintered nylon axle guards are provided that are simply screwed onto the sole bars. These provide a very free running wheel bearing without the need for brass bushes. They come pre-coloured in a “carbon black” finish which looks attractive without needing any further painting.
Quality Steel Wheels
Two pairs of 24 mm steel disc wheels are provided (i.e. two axles). These are precision CNC machined with 2mm journals and have insulated bushes in case you use track power.
Available in both 32mm and 45mm track gauges.
DHR Open Wagon Assembly Instructions
Paint and glue are not included
