Description
This kit is a 1/20 scale model of the Ffestiniog Railway’s Dduallt Station. This quiet station was first opened as a passenger station in 1880 following a request from the landowner Colonel Tottenham. Built in wood it had a single office for the station master and an open fronted waiting shelter. This station was also known as Rhoslyn station due to the adjacent (Rhoslyn) lake.
In 1884 it became a block post when the instruments from the south portal of the Moelwyn Tunnel were moved here. Up goods trains are said to have had to stop at Dduallt for examination before passing through Moelwyn Tunnel. The station building was altered so that the office was extended and the waiting shelter enclosed and accessed through a door leading onto the platform. Later photographs also show a “facilities” extension on the rear of the building.

Birch Plywood Construction
The main structural parts of this kit are laser cut from 3mm birch plywood to give greater weather resistance than our usual poplar plywood.
Birch Plywood Detailing
Most of the detailing on this kit is provided by one piece “overlays” cut from 1.5mm birch plywood. This technique allows for an attractive building without the modeller having to glue dozens tiny pieces in place.
High Impact Polystyrene Roof
The slate roof overlay is vacumn formed HIPS sheet. This also has the virtue of being completely rain proof! Window panes are also cut from the same material.
3D Printed Chimney Pot
The stations distinctive octagonal chimney pot is also included and has been 3D printed from HIPS for greater weather resistance
Note: If the modeller intends to leave this building out between running sessions then we highly recommend thoroughly varnishing or painting this structure together with the use of a waterproof PVA adhesive (neither of which is not included in this kit).
